Brief Description: Consists of the subject files of the Rainbow Round Table, including bylaws and procedures, Clearinghouse inventory, internal and external correspondence, listserv correspondence, and correspondence of Roland Hansen, Helen Hill, Dee Michel, and Wendy Thomas (1992-96). It also contains minutes and meeting notes (1988-2012), reports, rosters, and monthly updates. The files document the activities of the Rainbow Round Table (RRT) under its various names, including the Task Force on Gay Liberation (1970-1975), the Gay Task Force (1975-1986), the Gay and Lesbian Task Force (1986-1995), the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Task Force (1995-1999), the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Round Table (1999-2019), the the Rainbow Round Table (2019-). These activities include book awards, conferences, fundraising, publishing bibliographies and newsletters, as well as a variety of outreach and engagement events.

Biographical Note for Rainbow Round Table (1970-) :

The Rainbow Round Table (RRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) was founded in 1970 as ALA's Task Force on Gay Liberation.  It is the nation's first gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender professional organization.(1)

The Raindow Round Table of the American Library Association is committed to serving the information needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender professional library community, and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender information and access needs of individuals at large. It is committed to encouraging and supporting the free and necessary access to all information, as reflected by the missions of the American Library Association.

The Rainbow Round Table provides its members, other American Library Association divisions, members, and affiliates, and the library and information science field as a whole with a forum for discussion and an environment for education and learning regarding the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender professional community and population at large.(2)
