Whiting (1885-1964) (Ph.D., 1912) Professor of Soil Biology (1912-24) and Agricultural Experiment Station Soil Biologist (1912-24) contains biographical material, doctoral thesis (A Biochemical Study of Nitrogen in Certain Legumes) contains research notes and publications relating to soil biology and the effect of inoculation of soil on nitrogen production in legumes, and a photograph album from Whiting's company, The Urbana Laboratories, showing the company's building at 406 N. Lincoln Avenue and examples of field tests of pea strains inoculated with "the Urbana Culture" in Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Wisconsin.
