Papers of Stanley White (1891-1979), professor of Landscape Architecture (1922-1959), consisting of commonplace books in which he recorded notes and sketches of scenery and landscaping in Massachusetts, Illinois and Colorado, as well as in the South, the Southwest and the Pacific Northwest.Ã?  He also recorded correspondence, newspaper clippings of current events, reflections on teaching and practicing landscape architecture, and notes for lectures and proposed publications. Mr. White was also active in the Foundation for Architecture and Landscape Architecture and in the American Society for Landscape Architecture. Significant correspondents include his brother, Elwyn B. White, Charles Harris, Patrick Horsbrugh, Stanley Lovell and Hideo Sasaki. The papers include course lecture notes, manuscripts and correspondence (1936-74).

The Stanley White Papers also contain landscape architectural blueprints and sketches on onion-skin paper of the University of Illinois President's House and Gardens (1930-38), correspondence, book chapters, contract work and a subject file.
