Description: Files of the Reading Commission (established in 1970) containing correspondence; agendas and minutes of meetings; nominating ballots and invitations for membership; position papers on "Accountability: Then and Now: A Working Paper," "Behavioral Objectives and Reading," "Improving Reading Instruction in Secondary Schools," and "Accountability: Testing, Behavioral Objectives and Performance Contracting;" recommendations and proposals regarding NCTE response to funding controversy over the National Right to Read program (established in 1970 by U.S. Office of Education) and pending legislation for a National Reading Improvement Program (1974) and pamphlets and brochures on the Right to Read program. Principal correspondents include Harold Herber (Director, 1974-75), Robert Hogan, Rodney Morisset and Robert Ruddell (Director, 1970-73).
