Description: Papers of Lee Sisson Hultzen (1896-1968), professor of speech (1945-54), including biographical data (1945-68); academic appointments (1923-67); course notes from his lectures at Cornell (1934), Columbia (1934-36, 1945), Barnard (1934-36), UCLA (1936-40), Missouri (1940-43), Illinois (1946-58, 1959-64), Ohio State (1961), Queens (1964-65) and California (1966-67) on speech, English, intonation, pronunciation, phonetics and linguistics; lectures (1940-63); publications and manuscripts of talks on pronunciation and phonetics (1924-67) and correspondence (1941-68) with Clarence Barnhart of Thorndike-Barnhart College Dictionary (1965-67) concerning work at Ohio State University (1960-61) and Berkeley (1965), the results of conferences and meetings (1957-58); phonetic and phonemic experiments and project from his classes.
