Description:

Printed and duplicated copies of letters, communications (1941-43), reports (1943, 1954-55, 1959), stylebook (1951) and standards (1956, 1961) issued by the Committee on Students' English, relating to Senate rules, faculty identification of students needing assistance, policies concerning English usage of undergraduates, rhetoric instruction, proficiency testing, recommendations for graduation requirements. Stylebook (1951), results of placement tests and faculty questionnaires, Standards in Freshman Rhetoric (1956, 1961).

The 1918-33 committee sought to discover and correct students using unsatisfactory English. Reestablished in 1941, the committee was directed to study regulations, proficiency examinations, remedial courses, speech and writing clinics, style manuals and policy statements.
