Description: Papers of Carl A. Menzel '17 (1894-1987), including correspondence, biographical information, autobiographical recollections, publications, patents, press releases, photographs, awards and clippings relating to Mr. Menzel's career at the Forest Products Laboratory (1918-21), Underwriter's Laboratories (1921-28) and the Portland Cement Association (1928-59) and his engineering research humidity testing in wood drying kilns (1926), Homewood, IL sewage system (1927-29), fire resistance and strength of concrete masonry (1931-32), Portland Cement as a binder in foundry molding sand (1937), autoclave testing apparatus (1934-39), concrete reinforcing bars (1941-46), aid and moisture content of concrete (1947, 1955-58), concrete and steel bonding (1952), Menzel high-pressure steam curing symposium (1969), and awards from the American Society for Testing and Materials (1931, 1974-75) and the American Concrete Institute (1963, 1970).
