Description: Subject file of Sveinbjorn Johnson (1926-44), William E. Britton (1944-51), Ralph F Lesemann (1951-61) and James J. Costello (1961- ) containing correspondence, and receipts, griefs and opinions, official agreements and memoranda, transcripts, vouchers and receipts concerning appropriations, buildings and grounds, Civil Service acts and employees, claims and suits against the University, contracts involving faculty and administration, federal grants, General Electric and Westinghouse Price-fixing suits, hospitals, insurance, the Illini Union, legislation and pending bills, military training, patents, purchase and lease of property, research retirement systems, scholarships, seditious organizations, taxes and Urbana-Champaign civic planning. Correspondents include Attorney Generals of Illinois, construction companies and contractors, insurance agents, legislators, State Attorneys, litigants and attorneys involved in property and personal damage suits, official at other universities, university architects, bursars, comptroller, deans, presidents, purchasing agents, registrars and treasurers, and Urbana-Champaign government officials. The Legal Counsel served as Secretary to the Faculty along with patent applications from faculty (1921-57). A tax file includes correspondence and documents about the university's payment of local property taxes (1946-64). A Krebiozen file contains correspondence, legal briefs, affidavits, legislative hearing reports, Board of Trustees minutes, and published reports and leaflets relating to Dr. A.C. Ivy, President George Stoddard and Rutherford v. A.M.A. (1951-67).
