Description: Special Collections Acquisitions File of University Librarians Robert Downs, Lucien White, and Hugh Atkinson; Acquisitions Librarians Helen Welch and Marilyn Satterlee; Director of Collection Development, Carl Deal; and the Assistant Director for Special Collections, Acquisitions, and Preservation, Norman Brown, includes correspondence, inventory lists, appraisals, descriptions of collections offered for donation or purchase, accession agreements, clippings, and recommendations from faculty members concerning potential and actual acquisitions of collections of manuscripts, rare books, photographs, monographs, serials, and maps purchased by or donated to the library. This series also includes requests from the University Librarian to the research Board for the purchase of special collections materials (1943-78) and the annual reports of purchases from Research Board Funds (1954-71). Access Restriction: This series includes inventories of rare books and other manuscript and special collections as well as financial information regarding gifts and purchases. Access will be granted to researchers only with the prior written permission of the Special Collections Division Coordinator. If the Division Coordinator is the University Archivist, access will be granted only with the written permission of both the Division Coordinator and the Director of the Rare Book & Manuscript Library. In requesting access to this record series, researchers should provide a written description of their research project and a list of the file folders to which they desire access.
