Sigma Alpha Iota was established as an honorary society at the University of Michigan on June 12th, 1903 and became "Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity" in 1928. Sigma Alpha Iota seeks to promote interaction among women sharing a commitment to music. The University of Illinois chapter, Sigma Delta, was founded in 1924.
