The Department of Home Economics began in 1872 as the School of Domestic Science and Art.
In 1901, the name of the Department was changed to the Department of Home Economics.
On May 11, 1995, the Board of Trustees approved the renaming and reorganization of the College. It was renamed the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences and several changes were made in the organization of departments and divisions.
With the 1995 reorganization, the Division of Consumer Sciences from the School of Human Resources and Family Studies became part of the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics and the Division of Foods and Nutrition became part of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.
