Historical Note: Professor Ronald Hedlund's wife, Barbara Hedlund, is an Emmy-winning cellist. After studying with prominent orchestral musicians and prior to moving to Illinois, Mrs. Hedlund performed with several acclaimed orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic. Apart from her orchestral work, she has performed for many dance and opera companies, and has played in the Brodway pit orchestra. She has also performed with many popular artists including the Moody Blues, Carly Simon, and Diana Ross. She holds an Emmy for Best Music as well as a shared Tony, Grammy, and Grand Prix du Disque for RCA's Porgy and Bess. She is the principal cellist for the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, the Danville Symphony, and the Prairie Ensemble among others. Apart from her illustrious performance career, she is also active in arts administration and in her artist management agency, 1st Choice Music Services.
