Villa de Chantal Parlor with Women | University of Illinois Archives

Title:
Villa de Chantal Parlor with Women
Date:
ca. 1901-1920
Description:

Several women sit in a parlor in the Villa de Chantal, a former school run by the Sisters of the Visitation in Rock Island, Illinois, and designed by George Stauduhar.  This image is of the main parlors found immediately inside the villa's main door.  To the left are steps that lead up to a stage area; often a piano was placed here for events.  There were in fact several parlors and some other smaller, less elaborate rooms on the other side of the hall.  The parlors were the greeting area in which nuns and students met and entertained visitors.  The rest of the convent was private.

Found in RS: 26/20/42, Box 51.
