On December 24, 1963, the University Committee on Human Relations and Equal Opportunity was established as the first of many steps to achieve the goal of equal opportunity.¹ Among campus programs to deal with discrimination is the Office of Affirmative Action for Equal Opportunity, which was established in the budget of the Chancellor's Office in 1971-1972.² In 1972, the Campus Council on Equal Opportunity was formed to integrate and oversee all affirmative action programs, including the Equal Opportunity Office. Its director serves on the Council.³
