Committee for Liaison with Japanese Libraries | The American Library Association Archives

Name: Committee for Liaison with Japanese Libraries

Historical Note:

In 1967, Council created an advisory subcommittee of the International Relations Committee on Liaison with Japanese Libraries (ACLJL) (1), which was replaced by an advisory ad hoc committee (ACLJL) in 1978-79 (2). Its purpose was "in coordination with its Japanese counterpart, to plan and implement U.S. - Japan binational conferences on librarianship in fulfillment of goals and objectives established by the ALA International Relations Committee" (3). The formal duties of the ACLJL are "encompassed in the three main areas of conferences, exchange of persons, and publications" (4). The ACLJL also serves in an advisory role in connection with international meetings (5) and the ALA International Relations Committee (6).
