Historical Note: Carol A. Brey-Casiano earned a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin's Graduate School of Library & Information Science [1]. She worked in public libraries for 30 years [2], and served as the director of public libraries in El Paso, Texas; Las Cruces, New Mexico (1996-2000); and Oak Park, Illinois (1992-1995) [1]. She was President of ALA from 2004 to 2005 and was also a member of ALA Council and the Library Advocacy Now! Network. She chaired the Public Library Association's Basic Education and Literacy Services Committee. In the Texas Library Association (TLA), she was a REFORMA member, as well as the chair of the Public Relations Committee and the Library Services to the Spanish-Speaking Roundtable. Brey-Casiano currently works as an information resource officer with the United States Department of State [2].
