Brief Description: Papers of James P. Danky, Newspapers and Periodicals Librarian at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (1976-2007), member of the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) and recipient of the 1987 Bowker-Ulrich Serials Librarian of the Year award, including correspondence, publications, photographs, clippings, cassette recordings, bibliographies, coursework, and conference materials. Biographical Note for Danky, James Philip (1947-) : James Philip Danky graduated from Ripon College in 1970, and received his MLS in 1973 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Danky served as the Newspapers and Periodicals Librarian at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin 1976-2007. While in this position, Danky built a nationally recognized collection in American History, with strengths in African American and other minority or marginalized publications and alternative or underground publishing. In 1992, Danky co-founded the Center for the History of Print Culture in Modern America (later renamed Center for the History of Print and Digital Culture). In 1990 Danky joined the faculty at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has also worked in the School of Library and Information Studies and the Department of Afro-American Studies.
