Annual Reports, 1967-74

The Children's Research Center provides laboratories and offices for psychological research with children. It furnishes satellite facilities for research in public schools and state institutions. The Herman M. Adler Zone Center in Champaign, an Illinois Department of Mental Health clinic, also sends patients to the center for participation in studies.¹ In 1963, the University hired the first director of the Children's Research Center.² In April 1966, the Graduate College acquired administrative jurisdiction of the Center from the Provost's Office. The facilities did not open until late 1966, after completion of the building founded by state and federal health appropriations.³ The Center shares a site with and was built in conjunction with the Adler Center.⁴

In 1975, the Children's Research Center merged with the Institute for Research on Exceptional Children (IREC). The name changed to Institute for Child Behavior and Development (ICBD). Jurisdiction was transferred from the Graduate College to the College of Education.
