Brief Description: Papers of Frederick Seaton Siebert (1901-82), J.D. '29, professor of journalism (1931-57), including a 126 page autobiographical account of his family, youth in the Minnesota Iron Range, Saskatchewan (1911-13), the University of Wisconsin (1920-23), Bradley Institute of Technology (1923-27), The University of Illinois (1927-57), family and travel, the First Amendment and freedom of the press, Michigan State University (1957-73), travel and friends. The papers include correspondence (1932-48) about journalism; the Daily Illini; Illinois alumni; Illinois Press Association; press conventions; Northwestern University Journalism School; military service; faculty appointments; freedom of the press research; legal cases involving freedom of the press, libel and newspaper taxes and publications. The papers include copies of The Rights and Privileges of the Press (1934) and articles on the regulation and taxation of the press, federal wartime information agencies, political advertising and the law and journalism (1936-46).
