Howard E. Crawford moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Ohio in 1925 to manage the S. Ernest Philpitt Co. music store. To advertise the Steinway pianos and other instruments Philpitt Co. had for sale, Crawford produced concerts in Jacksonville featuring pianist Ignacy Paderewski, the Sousa Band, and others. In 1930 Crawford became Weights and Measures Inspector for the city of Jacksonville, retiring in 1970.
