Biographical Information:

David Roesch started his own lighting business shortly after graduating from Centennial High School (Champaign) in 1975, and began working closely with local and national musicians. In 1984 he was hired as extra help at the State Farm Center (formerly Assembly Hall), until becoming a full-time stage manager in 1999. He retired from the State Farm Center in February of 2018.

Scope and Contents

Consists of eight scrapbooks of newsclippings and memorabilia documenting the Urbana-Champaign, Illinois local music scene between 1966 and 2017.�  The newspaper articles include descriptions of performances and concert dates by such bands as Coal Kitchen, The Moon Seven Times, The Vertebrats, Mother, Corndolly, Suede Chain, Finchley Boys, Ginger, Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets, Starcastle, REO Speedwagon, Hound Dog Moses, Poster Children, B-Lovers, Corndolly, Hardvark, Sarge, the Last Gentlemen, Absinthe Blind, Champaign (the band), Combo Audio, George Faber and Stronghold, The Elvis Brothers, Nix 86, The Outnumbered, Nick Rudd, Lonely Trailer.�  The newsclippings also include numerous�  advertisements for many of the community's local music venues including Chances R, Red Lion Inn, Assembly Hall, Blind Pig, The Virginia Theater, City Limits, Alley Cat, Mabel's, The Brown Jug, Panama Red's, Red Herring, Highdive, Cowboy Monkey, Mike N' Molly's, Rose Bowl.�  In addition there are Assembly Hall concert ticket stubs, a National Dance Marathon program, a Red Lion Inn 1979 health permit, a Combo Audio fan club certificate and band member biographies, and a zine called The Road Puppy Weekly Review, 2nd edition, September 20-27, 1991 that was edited by Joey Buck.

In addition there articles documenting the Gary Strater benefit concert; Mark Rubel's relocation of the Pogo Studio to Nashville; Tennessee, and a Red Lion Inn health permit from 1979.

In addition the newsclippings document two local sound recording business, Polyvinyl Records and Record Swap; and includes The Road Puppy Weekly Review zine, 2nd edition, Sept. 20-27, 1991, edited by Joey Buck.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances by the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer, as well as the Marshall Tucker Band, Frank Zappa, Starcastle, and Todd Rundgren. There are also articles documenting the plane crash that killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd; as well as ticket stubs from performances by many national acts that took place at the University of Illinois' Assembly Hall.

In addition there are articles about Della Perrone's work photographing many of the musicians who performed as part of the Urbana-Champaign local music scene.

This is also a Combo Audio fan club certificate and the biographies of the band members and a National Dance Marathon program.
