The Athletic Association was chartered as a not-for-profit corporation in 1892 and the first director was named in 1896 to supervise operations and finances. Regulations for the Government of Athletics provided that "the election of captains of athletic teams hiring of trainers, coaches, and schedules of all games and contacts shall be approved by the Board."

Chronological
Basketball game films, including copies of 16mm motion picture films, U-matic, Betacam, and VHS videotapes, and DVD transfers of Illinois basketball games, produced by the University photolaboratory or other universities and used by the coaches or for public showings. For 1949-70, a 34% sample includes three of four games for games for each season from 1949-50 to 1968-69, except 1966-67 (2). For 1939-40 (2), 1940-41 (2), 1941-42 (1), 1944-45 (1), 1946-67 (1), 1947-48 (1), 1948-49 (2) and 1969-70 (1). Most years include two conference games and one or two non-conference games.
