Papers of Nelson Wax (1917-1992), professor of electrical engineering (1948-1987) and Coordinated Science Laboratories research professor (1953-1987); visiting professor at the University of Colorado (summer 1963), University of Texas (1965-66), and Weizmann Institute (Israel) (1978); and consultant to Dover Publications (1943-1979), Rand Corporation (summers, 1958, 1960-62) and Space Technology Labs (summer 1959). Includes biographical material (1933-1987); correspondence (1946-1988); subject file (1948-1985) including notes and publications regarding biochemical reactions, large-scale systems, electron dynamics, interacting populations, electromagnetic waves, hysteresis, multivibrator theory, error correcting codes, oscillators, noise, the Lienard equation, phase-locked loops, and frequency entrainment; handwritten calculations, graphs, and notes (1944-1978); course materials (1939-1987), including lecture notes from courses attended and taught; and publications (1946-1987) about circuit theory, linear and nonlinear systems, oscillations, error correcting codes, the Lienard equation, noise, the Sturm-Liouville equation, frequency entrainment, interacting populations, system structure, decomposition and control, biochemical reactions, the van der Pohl equation, the ring current hypothesis, and design considerations for a proposed auroral radar.
