Scope and Contents

Papers of Martin L. Mosher (1882- ), professor of farm management extension (1923-50), including 1600 35mm color slides and 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 negatives of farmsteads in the United States and Canada, showing date and location of photographs and notes on farm size, crops and buildings; "Catalogue of Films and Colored Slides for Farmsteads of the United States of America at the Middle of the 20th Century" (1965) listing number, date and location of photographs and indicating if an enlargement is in scrapbook volumes located at the Agricultural Hall of Fame & National Center in Bonner Springs, KS; "It Happened That Way Out Where the West Begins," Mosher's account of farm life, 1976-1905 (1978); three volumes of "Farmsteads of the United States at the Middle of the 20th Century" (1966), containing 1390 black and white prints of farmsteads arranged by state showing location on a United States map, typewritten data on land and tenure, crop and livestock production and farm income in 1950 and location information for the photographs, a foreword by M. S. Whildon, a preface by the author, autobiographical material on his farm boyhood in Iowa and his photography of farmsteads and photographs of rural churches and schools; an 11-page appendix containing narrative information and maps on agricultural development in the U.S.; highway maps of states and provinces showing the author's routes and the locations of farmsteads; a copy of Mosher's introduction and narrative for an illustrated lecture on "Farmsteads of the United States;" reprints and articles on farm management, farm income and agricultural economics (1916-54); and his FBFMS Fieldman's diary (1925-27) and expense ledger (1925-29).
