The Children's Research Center provides laboratories and offices for psychological research with children. It furnishes satellite facilities for research in public schools and state institutions. The Herman M. Adler Zone Center in Champaign, an Illinois Department of Mental Health clinic, also sends patients to the center for participation in studies.
In 1975, the Children's Research Center merged with the Institute for Research on Exceptional Children (IREC). The name changed to Institute for Child Behavior and Development (ICBD). Jurisdiction was transferred from the Graduate College to the College of Education.
