Agricultural instruction was provided for in the Land Grant Act of Congress in 1862 and it was one of the chief aims of the university at its beginning.

Printed and duplicated announcements and programs of conferences, conventions and meetings held at the University of Illinois by professional agricultural organizations with the cooperation of the College of Agriculture, including the Corn Growers' and Stockman's Convention (1901-22), the American Farm Bureau Institute, the Illinois Agricultural, Horticultural, and Domestic Science Societies and others. The Corn Growers and Stockman's convention, supplemented by a livestock and a dairy conference became part of Farmer's Week, which later became Farm and Home Week (see RS 8/1/0/23).
