Description: Albert Wattenberg (1917-2007) Papers, including technical biography, photocopies of documents from the files of the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago (Manhattan Project) collected by Prof. Wattenberg as a joint editor of the Collected Papers of Enrico Fermi (University of Chicago, 1965, 2 volumes) including several documents not included in the final volume. The documents consist of minutes and reports of policy committee meetings and decisions and technical information about the first nuclear reactor. Also included are proposals and progress reports for research in nuclear physics to the Atomic Energy Commission, the Office of Naval Research, U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration, and U.S. Department of Energy; and correspondence, reports, newsclippings, speeches, and articles concerning the history of Wattenberg's involvement with Enrico Fermi and the group of physicists responsible for developing atomic energy, the atomic bomb, and the first nuclear chain reaction.
