Description: Papers of James Marvin Weller (1899-1976), assistant professor of Geology, University of Illinois (1936-37), visiting professor of Geology, University of Texas 91956), professor of Invertebrate Paleontology, University of Chicago (1945-65), and member of the Illinois State Geological Survey Division (1925-45), including correspondence and manuscripts of Stuart Weller (Geology Department, University of Chicago, 1898-1927), research project reports in India by J. M. Weller and B. R. Mackay (1921), reports from 1937 China trip, correspondence and reports of National Research Council Committee on Stratigraphy (Weller, chair 1944-45), and Weller correspondence recommending R. C. Moore for 1955 presidency of Geological Society of America.  The series also includes correspondence with M. M. Leighton (Illinois State Geological Survey), J. Brooks Knight (Princeton), American Metal Company and Kentucky Geological Society, requests for fossil identifications and collection transfers from American and international scholars, and Weller's "Outline of the Pennsylvanian Stratigraphy of the Eastern Interior Basin" (1933).
