Description: Papers of Richard Murphy (1903-85), professor of speech (1945-71), including copies of professional correspondence with colleagues, editors, university administration, debate coaches and students; contest programs and newspaper clippings concerning debate events at University of Illinois (including international debate with Oxford University), University of Colorado, and University of Pittsburgh (1933-61); annual reports on the activities of the Illini Forensic Association (1948-61); delegate materials and proceedings from the Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention (1970); publications, including offprints, magazine articles, and educational handbooks related to topics in speech, debate, United States foreign policy, and labor unions (1928-67); editorial work for Illinois Speech Association's publication of Speech News (1949), and for "Shop Talk" column in Quarterly Journal of Speech (1956-59), including submissions, correspondence with authors, editors and publishers; collected research material concerning the resignation of speech professor Charles H. Woolbert (1925-26), President Theodore Roosevelt (1951-64), the Leo Koch case (1960-63), Revilo P. Oliver (1964) and Senator Adlai E.
