Photograph from the News-Gazette showing four women cheerleaders during a football game at Memorial Stadium and a caption that reads: "Something New: Illinois Girl Cheerleaders. - The Illinois cheering section for the first time had the inspiration of a cheersome foursome of coed cheerleaders Saturday afternoon in Memorial stadium [sic]. It was the first time Illini cheerleaders included coeds. Shown in action are, left to right, Marilyn Berger, Chicago; Mary Lou Schaeflein, Chicago; Dorothy Rich, Manteno; and Marilyn Loew, Springfield. Illinois gridders, backed with Illini cheers, defeated Ohio university [sic], 28 to 2, in the season's opener."
