Scope and Contents of the Materials

This volume contains a manuscript score for Sinfonia nel Ciro riconosciuto by German composer, Johann Adolf Hasse (1699-1783). Prominent Italian libretto, Pietro Metastasio (1698-1782), wrote the text for Sinfonia nel Ciro riconosciuto circa 1736.

Hasse began his career in Hamburg as a member of the Oper am Gänsemarkt in 1718. His first opera, Antioco, was first performed at the court of Brunswick in 1721. Hasse spent a significant portion of his career in Naples, Italy, also finding work in Venice, Dresden, and Vienna. Nicknamed "il Sassone," Hasse is remembered for his integral role in the development of opera seria.
