Scope and Contents of the Materials

This volume contains a manuscript score for a setting of Psalms for eight voices and bass, with lyrics in Latin. It is attributed to Bolognese composer and organist Giovanni Paolo Colonna (1637-1695). Colonna served as organist for the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna, Italy, from 1661 until 1674, when he became maestro di cappella, a role he held until his death. He also served as maestro di cappella at the Madonna della Galliera (1673-1688) and San Giovanni in Monte (1689-1690), and was a founder of the Accademia dei Filarmonici of Bologna, serving as principe from 1672-1695.
