Sousa Archives Celebrates International Jazz Day on April 28th

Jazz2015-flyer-finalJoin the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music, UNESCO Center for Global Citizenship, Conservatory of Central Illinois, the Center for Global Studies, Sam Reese, Patricia Hruby Powell, and the Traditional Jazz Orchestra with guest singer Laurie Matheson for an evening of historical movies celebrating the lives and music of Midwest jazz sirens Josephine Baker, Anita O’Day, and Dee Dee Bridgewater.  The film viewing will take place at Champaign, Illinois’ Art Theater on April 28, 2015 between 5:30 and 6:30 with introductions and commentary by Sam Reese and Patricia Hruby Powell.  Following this exciting showing of short films people are invited to attend a special performance of the Traditional Jazz Orchestra at the Esquire Lounge between 7:00 and 9:00pm.  Both events are free and open to the general public.  For further information call or email the Sousa Archives staff at either 217-333-4577 or sousaarchives@illinois.edu.
