Sousa Archives’ One Community Together Programming for Sweetcorn Festival 2018

Join the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music for its 10th year of One Community Together (OCT) programming for the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival on August 25, 2018.  This year’s programming and children’s activities kicks off with a very special performance of Czech folk music played by the Vojodeyl Trio and will again conclude with another exciting finale performance by the Urbana, Central, and Centennial High School marching bands playing Ken Force’s arrangement of “This Land is Your Land” conducted by University Bands Director, Stephen Peterson.  The One Community Together stage is located at the corner of Race and Main Streets, and all performances and children’s activities are free and open to the public.

OCT performance schedule:

11:30-12:00 Vojodeyl Trio
12:00-1:00 Bow-Dacsious String Band and BBL Jazz Band
1:15-2:00 Tune-wrangling with Jordan Kaye
2:15-3:00 Bali Lantari Balinese drumming and dance
3:15-4:00 Ngoma Expressions African drumming and dance
4:15-5:00 Tradition Jazz Orchestra
5:15-6:30 Urbana, Central, and Centennial Marching Bands

11:30-1:00 Mystery Mammals of Illinois and Other Nature Games (Homer Lake Interpretive Center)
1:30-3:00 Nature Play and Wand Crafts (Anita Purves Nature Center)
2:00-4:00 Music Making with Didgeridoos, Australia’s Oldest Wooden Brass Instrument (Sousa Archives)
2:00-5:00 Up and Away with Kite Crafts (Spurlock Museum)
3:00-5:00 Exploring Telescopes, Meteorites, and the Sun (Staerkel Planetarium)
