The records and publications held in the NCTE archives can assist in a wide range of research topics, including but not limited to:
- Educator support and resources
- Curriculum studies and studies on teaching criteria
- Educational policies, studies, reports, and challenges throughout American educational history
- Teaching of English as a non-native language
- Literature in the classroom, including Black literature, Asian American literature, Native literature
- The organizational history of NCTE
The NCTE archives are arranged into record series organized by creating body. Record series are arranged into record groups:
- 15/70 Executive Committee and Board of Directors
- 15/71 Executive Director and Offices
- 15/72 Sections
- 15/73 Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces
- 15/74 Conferences and Research Foundation
- 15/75 Affiliates and Assemblies, Caucuses, and Special Interest Groups
A record series consists of the core record group series followed by a third segment. For example, the Literature Commission file can be found in the 15/73 record group. It’s full record series number is 15/73/5.
The 800 series are reserved for NCTE publications and the 200 series are reserved for personal papers.
