Mattoon Middle School 6th Grade Classes with Flat Sousa after visiting the Sousa Archives.
The sixth grade classes from Mattoon Middle School visited the Sousa Archives today and learned about the Center’s unique collection of historical music instruments, early sound recording technologies, James Beauchamp’s Harmonic Tone Generator, the Sal-Mar Construction, and the music of John Philip Sousa. Everyone had a great time and we hope many of the students will come back in the future to use our collections for research projects about America’s wonderful music legacy. Flat Sousa was delighted to meet everyone and hopes the next time the student musicians play one of his marches, they remember their visit today.
