The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music will celebrate John Philip Sousa’s 161st birthday starting at noon on November 6, 2015 with an afternoon of historical Sousa Band recordings and recent recordings by the U.S. Marine Band performing the “March King’s” most recognized melodies. The cutting of a special birthday cake will begin at 1pm and our celebration will continue until the music runs out. So please stop by for a sweet treat and a tour of the Center’s new 2015 American Music Month exhibitions documenting Illinois’ Mavericks, Innovators, and Pioneers Shaping America’s Arts Scene.
