Members of the Champaign Central High School Marching Band visited the Sousa Archives this morning and had an opportunity to play several of the Center’s Civil War era over-the-shoulder horns.  They also saw original manuscripts of John Philip Sousa’s early operettas and his famous “Liberty Bell March,” and were able to play James Beauchamp’s Harmonic Tone Generator.  A good time was had by everyone.  Special thanks to John and Jennifer Currey and Stephen Larson for bringing their talented students to the archives, and a very warm thank you to Mason Manint, a member of the University’s Marching Illini, and the rest of the wonderful Sousa Archives and University Bands staff for helping with today’s visit.
