Prior to the establishment of the Visual Resource Association (VRA) in the early 1980s, the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), itself newly established in 1972, worked with colleagues in the College Art Association (CAA), on visual resource matters. The document on the LEFT lists the CAA sessions at the ARLIS/NA Annual Meeting in 1975.
Members of ARLIS/NA and CAA worked together to provide cutting-edge programming. This 1976 effort co-sponsored by ARLIS/NA and CAA from 1976, shown at RIGHT, highlighted women’s contributions to the art world.
Collaboration took place at all levels. This 1980 letter BELOW from Christine Sundt, who ultimately became the first president of VRA in 1983, was written in the context of her work as leader of a joint ARLIS/NA-CAA committee on standards for visual resources.Continue.
